We all know that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a disastrous 2026 season, and we may have just learned something that could help explain part of the reason why he struggled to produce anywhere close to his usual standards.
In a recent post on Instagram, the Laser Eye Center of Miami revealed that it had performed laser eye surgery on Guerrero Jr. and that the superstar first baseman was doing very well following the procedure.
Laser Eye Center of Miami wrote:
“Home Run Vision. An elite hitter like Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. leaves nothing to chance, not even his vision. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is doing great at his post-op visit after laser vision correction with Dr. Gabriel Lazcano. Looking forward to an MVP year and lots of home runs with his new vision,”
A nagging back injury, loss of confidence and just overall poor performance were other facts that many pointed to for his career-worst 2026 season.
The 27-year-old Guerrero Jr. hit just nine home runs and drove in 57 runs while batting .260 across 144 games. He is, of course, locked into the 14-year, $500 million contract extension he signed with the Blue Jays in April 2025 through 2039.

While this doesn’t excuse Guerrero Jr. for the season he just had, it could help explain some of his struggles at the plate, which were shocking to see from such a talented player who is supposed to be in the prime of his career.
Combine that with a longer offseason to recover both physically and mentally, along with the possibility that Toronto adds help around him in the lineup this winter, and expectations will be that Guerrero Jr. returns to form from the start in 2027. The Blue Jays getting back to being World Series contenders could ultimately ride on it.
