Kevin Fiala Faces Uncertain Future After Olympic Collision

Swiss forward Kevin Fiala suffered a potentially serious injury during Friday’s Olympic matchup at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games, raising immediate concerns about his participation for the remainder of the tournament. In fact, it was later confirmed that he will miss the remainder of the Olympics after being taken off the ice on a stretcher.

There is some early concern that his entire season may be over. Switzerland coach Patrick Fischer said after the game, “We haven’t seen him yet. I think he went to the hospital. Obviously, it doesn’t look very good. Tough, tough, tough moment for Kevin and the whole team, obviously.”

“It’s the Olympic Games and I feel terrible that he may not be able to keep playing,” Wilson said. “Just sending his family and him my best. You never want to see a guy go down — in a tournament like this, especially. Sucks for the country, for their team. Just wishing him a quick recovery.”

The Los Angeles Kings winger went down following a heavy hit from Tom Wilson, with video replays showing his left leg bending awkwardly on impact. Fiala remained on the ice for several tense minutes as medical staff attended to him, eventually having to be taken off the ice. He was unable to walk off under his own power.

The injury occurred late in the third period. The game was in hand for Team Canada, who was up 5-1. Wilson wasn’t trying to injure Fiala, but unfortunately fell on top of him. Canadian players’ reactions, visible on their iPads watching the replay, reflected the unease in which they watched the replay.

TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported, “The whole Canadian bench came out to tap their stick as Fiala was taken out in a show of support.”
