The Toronto Blue Jays 2026 season may have reached a new low over the last week.
A 10-game homestand that began with seven straight against the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers—who were right behind them in the AL Wild Card hunt—has been a disaster. After opening with a win over Houston, Toronto has lost five consecutive games, falling two games behind the final playoff spot while the vibes around the team have sunk in the process.
This latest series against the Rangers has been particularly deflating, as the Blue Jays have gotten into big holes and had to claw their way back, only to still lose. Saturday afternoon was more of the same, and the frustration was visible after Alejandro Kirk hit a sixth-inning home run to make it 7-3 Texas.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was getting the home run jacket ready for Kirk, who was seemingly in no mood for it, just jogging on by and into the dugout as Toronto remained down by four.
Hazel Mae shared after the game on X (formerly Twitter) that it was because the sleeve on the jacket was inside out and Kirk didn’t want to stand there waiting. Nonetheless, the frustration was evident.
“Ok guys, just wanted to set the record straight here.. what happened was the sleeve on the HR jacket was inside out and Vladdy was trying to fix it. Kirk was already by the dugout and didn’t want to stand there and wait. Really no drama here. Just a wardrobe malfunction,”
The Blue Jays went on to lose the game 7-4, seeing their overall record on the season drop to 39-44.
Sunday afternoon will provide Toronto a chance to stop the bleeding and avoid a four-game sweep, and as much season as there is left, it almost feels like a must-win in late June.
First pitch between the Blue Jays and Rangers is set for 1:37 p.m. EST at Rogers Centre.
