Could the Mariners Be In for a Complete Reset This Offseason?

The Seattle Mariners were one win away from their first-ever World Series appearance in 2025, and less than a year later, people are now wondering whether the core of the team needs to be completely shaken up.

That’s what happens when you disappoint to the tune of a 60-68 record through the first 128 games of the following season, and this recent series in Milwaukee against the Brewers has seen things rear their ugly head, which included a 22-0 loss in the series opener.

All of that, along with the struggles of Cal Raleigh and the underwhelming play of Julio Rodriguez, who threw a ball into the stands after forgetting how many outs there were on Tuesday, has Justin Havens of the Baseball Is Dead podcast believing that this core in Seattle needs to change this offseason.

Havens said:

“The Mariners situation for me is just like basically as breathtakingly depressing as a baseball situation has been in recent history. It certainly feels like Dan Wilson is going to lose his job over this. It certainly feels like the players have quit on some level. You are on the doorstep of making the World Series and x amount of months later we’re talking about how you’re losing 22-0, how you’re eight games under five hundred… To me there might not be a more fascinating team in terms of what the offseason lays ahead for a team than the Mariners because this era is ******* over,”

The Mariners currently sit three games back of the Twins for the final wild-card spot in the AL, with five other teams between them and Minnesota.

From Raleigh and Randy Arozarena’s strange encounter at the WBC to all that’s gone on this season, it’s absolutely been a year to forget for the stars in Seattle.

Given that, it is very fair to wonder just what the future holds for this core group, because nobody has performed close to the level of being off-limits or viewed as an untouchable piece moving forward.
