New Day Among Several New Departures from WWE

New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have mutually decided to part ways with WWE, according to Fightful Select and other outlets.

The New Day has been one of the most successful tag teams in modern WWE history. Formed in 2014 by Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods, the trio started as a gospel-inspired heel group but exploded in popularity after embracing a fun, positivity-driven babyface persona in 2015–2016. Their hilarious antics got them noticed, and fans couldn’t get enough of their unicorns, pancakes, Booty-O’s cereal, and Francesca the trombone.

As far as their in-ring accomplishments, they set the record for the longest WWE Tag Team Championship reign at 483 days, secured a record seven SmackDown Tag Team titles, and became the first team to hold Raw, SmackDown, and NXT tag titles. As individuals, Kofi achieved his “KofiMania” WWE Championship win at WrestleMania 35, Big E won the WWE Title in 2021, and Woods captured King of the Ring.

Ultimately, the team will exit WWE without ever offering closure on the split that saw New Day turn heel and abandon Big E, who wanted to rejoin the group as their manager.

In other release news, JC Mateo and Tonga Loa have been moved to the alumni section of WWE’s official roster site. It appears they are gone, as might be Humberto and Angel, who posted a photo of them blipping from the ring in a recent social media post.
