Pistons Go “Big-Game Hunting” with LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard as Targets; Lakers Open to LeBron Trade

The NBA offseason is heating up fast, and Detroit is making its ambitions crystal clear.

After trading center Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies, the Detroit Pistons are expected to aggressively pursue marquee free agent targets, with LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard among the names on their radar, per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

Meanwhile, the LeBron James sweepstakes is shaping up to be one of the most captivating storylines of the offseason.

Windhorst floated an intriguing scenario on ESPN Cleveland in which the Los Angeles Lakers would be open to a sign-and-trade centered around Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen.

“The Lakers would KILL for Jarrett Allen,” Windhorst said. “They would do that deal in 17-tenths of a second.”

The framework would require LeBron to agree to sign with Cleveland — a return to Northeast Ohio — but Windhorst stopped short of reporting any active negotiations, describing it instead as a “thought process” circulating within the Lakers organization. Los Angeles has been searching for a rim-running center to pair alongside Luka Doncic since his arrival, and Allen fits that mold perfectly.

Adding further complexity, LeBron may need to wait and see how the Lakers’ broader free agency picture develops before knowing what financial offer they can actually extend him.

There are also reports that the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors are keeping their eyes on Kawhi Leonard status with the Clippers, per @BobbyMarks42.

With draft week barely in the books, the NBA offseason is already delivering fireworks.
