Ex-Manager Sees Another World Series Run in the Blue Jays

Through the first 75 games of the 2025-26 season, the Toronto Blue Jays (37-38) are not where they want to be, but a wide-open American League has them clinging to a wild card spot with everything they’re aiming for still right in front of them.

Toronto has been hammered by injuries and has seen its two best hitters, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer, go through major struggles, yet they remain in the playoff mix. As a result, former Philadelphia Phillies manager and Sarnia, Ontario native Rob Thomson believes last year’s AL champions are poised to get healthy and get hot, with the potential for another run to the World Series in 2026.

Thomson said:

“Sure, you know, because I’m living in Stratford, so we get a lot of Blue Jays news, and I really like John Schneider and I really like the organization. They’ve done a lot of great things and it’s a really good club. At some point they’re going to get healthy and they’re going to go on a run, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re back in the World Series again,”

The Blue Jays are currently tied with the Athletics for the third and final wild-card spot in the American League, while sitting third in the AL East, nine and six games back of the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, respectively.

A three-game sweep in Boston over the rival Red Sox may be a sign of Toronto righting the ship, which included both Guerrero Jr. and Springer hitting home runs and appearing to find themselves at the plate.

Combine that with the recent return of Alejandro Kirk and the eventual returns of Addison Barger, Shane Bieber, and Daulton Varsho, and there is real reason to believe the Blue Jays can go on a run and become a dangerous team down the stretch into the second half of the season.
