WWE appears to be doubling down on Gunther’s new era of dominance heading into the Royal Rumble. The company has officially filed a trademark for a new nickname tied to the reigning powerhouse: “Career Killer.” The timing has immediately fueled speculation about what — and who — could be in danger this Saturday.
With Gunther set to face AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble, speculation about Styles ending his in-ring run in WWE is everywhere. This new trademark seems to indicate that is what will happen.
Gunther has already leaned into the upcoming moniker, ominously stating on WWE Raw Monday night that the reason he challenged Styles and forced him into a career-ending stipulation is that he wants to be known as the guy who took Styles out. “Now I have a lot of things to gain,” he said ahead of his high-profile Rumble showdown.
Having already retired Goldberg and John Cena, Styles could be next on Gunther’s chopping block.
Styles Might Be Leaving WWE This Saturday
Much of the chatter surrounding the Rumble on Saturday is about the fate of AJ Styles. He was supposed to have a year-long run before retiring sometime in 2026. Now, he might be done before February.

A couple of fans don’t necessarily think this is the end for Styles, however. “See you in TNA, AJ,” one fan posted.
Other reports have noted that Styles’ retirement at the Royal Rumble has been in the works for some time.
WWE rarely trademarks something without intention. Filing paperwork for “Career Killer” suggests the company sees long-term value in the persona, and Styles could just be one more rung in the ladder of Gunther taking WWE stars out.
