WWE Remains Keenly Interested in Signing AEW Champion MJF

According to Fightful Select, WWE is absolutely interested in signing AEW World Champion MJF, whenever it is that his current contract with AEW comes to an end. They note, “One WWE source we spoke to said that ‘obviously’ WWE has been and would be interested in MJF if and when he was available, but that many in the company aren’t even sure when his AEW contract is actually up, and are operating on assumptions, and what he’s told to people.”

MJF hasn’t ever been shy about talking about his wrestling future, often leveraging the idea of him jumping to WWE in storylines and through his AEW character. The reality is, no one is all that sure if MJF is actually looking to make a move when his current deal expires and many don’t know when he talks about his contract if he’s even being truthful. Constantly in character, MJF is a throwback to kayfabe days where he rarely steps out from behind his portrayal of the on-screen version of MJF. Frankly, there aren’t many who probably know the difference between the real-life man and his character.

        MJF AEW WWE rumors

Rumors have floated around that he’s told his closest friends that he does intend to jump ship. A previous report by Fightful Select notes, “There are several in WWE who are very interested in when MJF’s contract actually ends. We spoke to a few of them MJF went as far as to tell one WWE talent, “I can’t wait to be there next year.” They add, “But it’s MJF, and he’s going to do MJF things.”

For now, MJF continues to prove he’s one of the elite talents in All Elite Wrestling. He walks a line between being over the top — as seen this week when he threw a drink into a young child’s face and went on a curse-filled rant during the post-Revolution media conference, but that might be exactly what he’s going for and what he hopes WWE is attracted to if and when it comes time to make him an offer.

Does he have the tools to be a top-level heel talent in WWE? It certainly appears so. He’s got the look, the in-ring ability, and the promotional skills to be a star under the creative direction of Triple H. The question Triple H might be asking is if he’s worth the trouble, or if he can be tamed and worked into the WWE system seamlessly. That Cody Rhodes (MJF’s good friend) is in the company and getting top billing this year at WrestleMania would be there to help is probably a good thing.
