Through the first two weeks of the 2026-27 NFL season, no team has been more disappointing than the Los Angeles Chargers.

Home losses to the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders, both of whom were projected to be bottom-feeders this year, have resulted in a nightmare start for Justin Herbert and company, with their schedule now set to stiffen up in a big way moving forward.

Herbert himself hasn’t been all that great, having thrown just two touchdowns with three interceptions while being sacked six times already in just two games. Many have been quick to put the blame on the superstar quarterback, however, former teammate Breiden Fehoko doesn’t believe that should be the case, subsequently floating the possibility of Herbert demanding a trade out of Los Angeles in the future.

Fehoko wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after Week 1:

“I’m tired of the blame on Justin Herbert. It’s not his fault. I am telling everyone this as someone who has been in that organization. Ownership and Front office will force him to retire and demand a trade,”

He then followed that up with another post on X following the Chargers’ Week 2 loss to the Raiders:

“If he won’t say it I will. Justin Herbert is sick of this organization. I hope he retires early or gets traded to a real contender,”

The 28-year-old Herbert is currently playing on the five-year, $262.5 million contract extension he signed with the Chargers in 2023, which runs through the 2029-30 season.

Even when at the top of their game, it’s always going to be tough for Los Angeles in a loaded AFC West with the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos, and that’s especially the case when Herbert and the offense are this sloppy.

The next seven weeks see the Chargers facing as difficult a schedule as you’re going to get, so if they don’t clean things up quickly, this season could spiral out of control. And if it does, then questions about Herbert’s future are only going to grow louder.
