There are plenty of ways for a hockey player to show appreciation for the city he represents. Some do it through community work, others through appearances and charitable events. Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros has found a rather different way to do it – with a new goalie mask featuring one of the city’s most beloved personalities, Dolly Parton.
The mask, painted by renowned goalie mask artist Dave Gunnarsson, is a tribute to the country music legend, who died in August. It’s a colourful and personal way to remember someone whose influence reached well beyond the music business. For Saros, it also seems like a fitting way to acknowledge the community that has supported him throughout his career.
Saros’ Goalie Mask Tells a Bigger Story
Saros has spent his entire 12-year NHL career in Nashville. He’s been the Predators’ full-time starter since the 2020-21 season, becoming one of the most recognizable and important players in the organization. He’s played 478 career games for the team, winning 234 of them and posting a .912 save percentage.
That’s a pretty remarkable connection between a player and one city. And while a goalie mask is first and foremost protective equipment, it’s also become something of a personal canvas for goaltenders. They can express a little personality, recognize people who matter to them, or pay tribute to something important in their community.
This one does all three in a way that Nashville fans are likely to appreciate.

Why Dolly Parton Belongs on a Nashville Hockey Mask
There’s something particularly appropriate about this tribute. Dolly Parton wasn’t simply a famous country singer who happened to live and work in Tennessee. She became part of the identity of Nashville and the wider region. Her music, personality, generosity and connection with people made her an extraordinary figure.
Saros didn’t need to choose a hockey personality or another sports figure to make a statement. He chose someone whose influence crossed generations and brought people together.
That’s an interesting reminder of what professional sports can mean to a community. Players come from different countries, cultures and backgrounds, but over time they become part of the places where they play. Saros has certainly earned that connection in Nashville.
As Saros Shows, Hockey Teams Are Part of the Larger Community
And perhaps that’s the nicest part of this story. A goalie mask usually attracts attention because of its artwork. This one also gives fans something to remember and talk about.
Sometimes hockey offers a little more than what’s happening between the pipes.
