Damar Hamlin Says “Headed home”, Released from Ohio Hospital

Social media was flooded Monday with updates on the condition of NFL safety for the Buffalo Bills, Damar Hamlin who was released from the hospital and is headed home. He wrote, “Headed home to Buffalo today with a lot of love on my heart.” He also sent thanks to anyone who sent him well wishes and supported his recovery, writing, “Watching the world come together around me on Sunday was truly an amazing feeling. The same love you all have shown me is the same love that I plan to put back into the world n more.”

He added that he was grateful for the awesome care he received at UCMC and said he was happy to be back in Buffalo. The doctors and nurses at Buffalo General have already made me feel at home. Hamlin was transferred to a hospital in Buffalo, New York, to continue his recovery, one week after the medical incident unfolded on “Monday Night Football” where millions of television viewers watched him collapse on the field, then millions more saw the footage shared on social media.

Hamlin is not out of the woods yet with his recovery and there is still a little ways to go, notes Dr. William Knight IV, a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Timothy Pritts, division chief of general surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and vice chair for clinical operations at UC Health said, “He’s certainly on what we consider a very normal to even accelerated trajectory from the life-threatening event that he underwent, but is making great progress.”

Hamlin was released from the Ohio hospital after his condition was upgraded from critical to to “fair or good.”
