Canadian actor Hayden Christensen, most well known for his role as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars Prequels and Ben Kenobi series called Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ is also now becoming known as a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. A video of the actor has gone viral on social media for his reaction over news that his favorite NHL team got into the second round of the 2023 playoffs with a win in Game 6 over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
Christensen was doing a presser and Q&A at the Calgary Expo when he got the news and could help jump out of his chair mid-question when a fan from the audience noticed his hat and told him the Maple Leafs had won.
The Maple Leafs broke their 19-year streak and advanced to the second round of the NHL playoffs with their series win. It was their first since 2004 and anyone known to be a Leafs’ fan is feeling both a sense of pride in a team they’ve supported for so long but always felt such disappointment with in the playoffs, and a sense of relief that the team didn’t choke away another elimination game. The actor, who was wearing a Maple Leafs’ hat during the Q&A explained that he almost didn’t wear his Leafs stuff because the last time he did so, it didn’t work out very well. He was thrilled to learn he didn’t jinx the team.
As for whether he plans to return to do more in the role of Darth Vader in the series, he responded, “I would love to get to do more. If the opportunity presents itself, I’ll be there.”
