There He Is: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Hits Home Run at Rogers Centre

It took way longer than anyone wanted or could have expected, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finally hit his first home run at Rogers Centre of the 2026 season on Sunday.

After ripping a double off the deep right-center field wall in the third inning, you could only wonder whether it was ever going to happen. Thankfully for the Toronto Blue Jays and their fans, Guerrero Jr. got the monkey off his back during his next at-bat, taking Trevor Rogers 350 feet over the left-field wall.

Toronto’s superstar first baseman enjoyed the moment, and after the game, the fun side of Guerrero Jr. was out in full force as he opened up during an interview with Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae.

Guerrero Jr. said:

“That feels so good, man. You know, for today, it’s special. We come out with the W, you know, we win the game. I try to do everything to win the game… I mean, I hope this is the sign. You know, I’ve worked really hard for this, and I hope this is going to be the sign, and I’m gonna keep giving my 100 percent, all that I got, to the fans, to the team, and try to help the team win every day. They know I’m human. I try, believe me, every time I go out there, I try to do my job. I try to do my 100 percent, and you know, I have all my teammates with me, and they believe in me. And thanks to the fans for believing in me too,”

The 27-year-old Guerrero Jr. went four-for-five on the afternoon and is now up to nine HRs and 56 RBI while hitting .265 through 135 games played this season.

When Guerrero Jr. is at his best, he’s locked in but also having fun, so it was a great sign to see that all on display over the weekend against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Blue Jays will need that to carry over for the rest of the season as they sit one game back of the Cleveland Guardians for the AL’s final wild-card spot, with both teams having 12 games to go.
