After leaving his start on Tuesday night in Houston against the Astros with a knee injury, Trey Yesavage has now been placed on the injured list by the Toronto Blue Jays.
It was announced by the team on Wednesday that Yesavage was going on the 15-day IL with what they’re calling knee inflammation. Lazaro Estrada and Chase Lee were recalled from Triple-A, while Chad Dallas was sent back down in subsequent moves.
This comes less than 24 hours after manager John Schneider seemed to downplay the possibility of any long-term injury concerns with his young star pitcher postgame.
“Trey felt a little pinch there in his left knee on his first couple of warmup pitches in the third. It was weird. He said he was OK, but we’re not taking any chances… It was kind of a pinching sensation where he couldn’t really stabilize perfectly. There was nothing beforehand. It kind of caught us off guard.”
The 23-year-old Yesavage has gone 5-5 while sporting a 3.65 ERA and a 91-46 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 18 starts so far this season.

It’s yet another blow to a Blue Jays team that’s dealt with injuries and underperformance all season long, which resulted in them being sellers ahead of Monday’s trade deadline.
Yesavage didn’t make his 2026 season debut until late April because of a shoulder impingement that he dealt with entering training camp, limiting his participation throughout spring training.
The acquisitions of Jameson Taillon and Jose Soriano become that much more important now with Yesavage on the shelf and Kevin Gausman in Chicago. Given where they are in the standings, it’s fair to wonder whether Toronto might take things slowly when it comes to a potential return to the mound for their 2024 first-round pick (20th overall).
