Cam Schlittler Had More to Say About the Blue Jays Before Toronto Start

While he’s yet to even play a full MLB season, Cam Schlittler has quickly made himself a fan favorite in New York and a villain in several rival cities.

From rubbing in the Yankees’ Wild Card Series victory over his hometown Boston Red Sox last year to his BABIP comments about the Toronto Blue Jays back in May, Schlittler isn’t making many friends around the AL East.

On Saturday afternoon, the young star pitcher will take the mound in Toronto, but before that he spoke to the media and was asked about some of his previous comments regarding the Blue Jays. He applauded the country and fans for their passion, while adding that he doesn’t like them and hopes his teammates feel the same.

Schlittler said:

“They’re easy to rage-bait, I think. All that stuff last year in the playoffs or whatever it is — they’ve got a whole country behind them, so there’s a lot. They’re passionate about it. You respect them for that, but I don’t really like them. They ended our season last year. I hope everyone’s got that chip on their shoulder,”

The 25-year-old Schlittler has had a dominant start to the 2026 season, currently sporting a 7-3 record with an AL best 1.87 ERA while striking out 9.77 batters per nine innings.

Schlittler clearly carries a confidence and swagger about him that opposing fan bases might not appreciate, but he has every right to given how well he’s pitched so far in his young career.

His comments add even more intrigue to an already crucial division matchup in Toronto between bitter rivals on Saturday. First pitch is set for 3:07 p.m. EST as Schlittler goes head-to-head with Kevin Gausman in Game 2 of their three-game weekend series.
