Xavier Worthy is soon to find himself a new home in the NFL and there’s one thing he’s known for — speed. This was on display at the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis, as Worthy amazed scouts by running a 4.21 40-yard dash. This broke the record previously held by John Ross at 4.22 seconds, set at the 2017 draft combine.
Ross catapulted himself into the top 10 of the draft, as the Cincinnati Bengals selected him ninth overall, unfortunately leading to a disappointing professional career. Xavier Worthy hopes to have a different story.
Worthy had a phenomenal career for the University of Texas, totaling 2755 receiving yards on 197 catches and adding 26 touchdowns. He’s been a staple of the Longhorn offense for three seasons, quickly turning into the focal point of their passing game. College fans remember him breaking out as a true freshman in their biggest game, against their most heated rivals, The Red River Rivalry against the Oklahoma Sooners. Worthy totaled 261 receiving yards on nine catches and had two touchdowns in the heartbreaking 55-48 loss. Despite the loss, Worthy cemented himself as a prospect that scouts would focus on.
