WWE Announces WrestleMania 39 Breaks All-Time Gate Record

Despite not having announced a single match for their biggest pay-per-view of the year, WWE has announced that WrestleMania 39 has broken the all-time gate record. Both nights of the company’s biggest premium live event of the season is still in the works and the card is far from ready, but WWE has announced that this year’s WrestleMania has broken an all-time gate record for tickets sold, beating out the previous record of $17.6 million, which was achieved in 2016 when WrestleMania 32 take place in Arlington, Texas. Ariel Helwani writes, “Sources say the gate is more than $18 million.”

With reports that Vince McMahon has returned and is potentially looking to sell WWE while he renegotiates new media rights deals with the company’s networks, WrestleMania 39 stands to be the most profitable WrestleMania in the company’s history and that bodes well for a sale, assuming WWE does pull the trigger on one. And, this isn’t the only event WWE talked about setting new highs for in the past year.

WWE writes in a statement: “The record gate comes on the heels of unprecedented ticket sales demands for WWE in 2022, in which it produced the highest-grossing gates of all time for Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, and Extreme Rules. Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, which marked WWE’s first major stadium show in the U.K. in 30 years, was the highest-grossing U.K. event in company history.”

WWE also boasted record-high gates for more than 20 different Raw and SmackDown shows throughout the 2022 calendar year. While the television ratings have taken a hit in recent years, WWE isn’t concerned considering the many ways the company is sharing its content with fans. Social media and streaming services have become a huge part of the overall delivery method in WWE and the company is more profitable than ever.

WrestleMania 39 will take place in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and it stands to be the biggest show for the company to date. It’s certainly the biggest show under the creative direction of Triple H, who took over for Vince when McMahon departed WWE amidst sexual misconduct allegations and an internal investigation, which is now complete.
