Trade talk surrounds guard Kyle Lowry ahead of the NBA Deadline. Reports have surfaced that the Lowry era in Miami could be coming to an end and specifically, it sounds like talks with Charlotte could see the a potential deal bring back Terry Rozier.
Lowry’s expiring $29.7-million salary adds trade value, and the Heat’s recent benching of the veteran guard has fueled speculation.
Lowry, 37, voiced his disappointment with the decision by the team to sit him. At the same time, he acknowledged his recent performance struggles. Averaging 8.2 points, four assists, and 3.5 rebounds this season, the six-time All-Star’s role on the team has shifted. In addition, the Heat’s three-game losing streak prompts trade discussions, signaling a potential deal before the trade deadline.
A Lowry Trade Could Come As Early As This Week
Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel indicates an impending “end game” between Lowry and the Heat, expecting a resolution soon. The move to the bench and recent trade availability suggests the partnership may have run its course. When asked if he’s still on the same page with Spoelstra, Lowry responded: “I don’t know exactly your question. I understand what you’re saying, but I really don’t know how to answer that question.” He added, “He just made this adjustment. He’s the head coach, and I have to go with that he says and figure it out.”
Brian Windhorst of ESPN notes it was interesting strategy by Coach Erik Spoelstra, moving Lowry to the bench. He is also the source to identify Terry Rozier as a possible option for the Heat and other teams.
