For the fourth time in his NBA career, LeBron James’ free-agent sweepstakes are the talk of the NBA offseason.
Even at 41 years old, LeBron still draws all of the attention around the basketball world and sports scene as a whole, and that’s once again been the case in recent days.
ESPN insider Shams Charania recently reported that James has narrowed down his list to six teams: the Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Philadelphia 76ers.
All of those would be fascinating landing spots for arguably the greatest player of all time’s final chapter in the NBA. However, none stands out more than a return to Cleveland to finish his career, and by the sounds of it, there is strong mutual interest.
According to insider Marc Stein, the Cavaliers are all in on bringing LeBron home, so much so that they’re saving a roster spot to acquire his son, Bronny, in case James signs with them.
The 41-year-old LeBron is, of course, a UFA after finishing out the two-year, $104 million contract extension he signed with the Lakers in 2024, while Bronny, 21, has two years remaining on the four-year, $7.9 million rookie contract he signed with the Lakers after being drafted in 2024.

You’d expect nothing less from LeBron than the storybook possibility of one last dance in Cleveland alongside Bronny, and the fact that the Cavaliers are willing to make it work could give them an even greater advantage in landing James.
LeBron would be joining a team led by Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, and Evan Mobley that reached the Eastern Conference Finals this past season before getting swept by the New York Knicks. The Cavaliers have been a perennial contender with Mitchell but haven’t had what it takes to get over the hump and become a true championship threat. Perhaps the addition of James would do just that.
