Now that the 2025–26 NBA season is officially over, all attention shifts to what is shaping up to be another offseason full of activity.
Nothing will draw more headlines than the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade sweepstakes, as the Milwaukee Bucks superstar is widely expected to be dealt in the coming weeks.
A number of landing spots have been floated for Antetokounmpo, including the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and Oklahoma City Thunder, among others. However, according to Bill Simmons of The Ringer, the Boston Celtics have recently made an offer that he expects could lead to a deal happening quite soon.
“I think they dove in, they made— from what I heard, they made an offer in the past week. I don’t know what the offer was and I don’t know who was in it, but that was in the ring, which I was really surprised by because I thought they were sitting it out… I think Boston’s going to get Giannis, and I think it will happen in the next week,”
The 31-year-old Antetokounmpo has two years remaining on the three-year, $175,369,698 contract extension he signed with the Bucks back in 2023. He averaged 27.6 PPG, 9.8 RPG, and 5.4 APG in just 36 appearances this past season.

If Boston were to land Antetokounmpo, it would very likely mean that Jaylen Brown is heading out the door, whether that be to Milwaukee in a return package or to another team in a separate deal.
While the Celtics would surely love to form a big three of Antetokounmpo, Brown, and Tatum, salary cap restrictions just may not allow that to be possible.
After winning the championship in 2023–24, it’s been a disappointing two follow-up seasons for Boston, and because of that they appear to be all-in on acquiring one of the best players in basketball.
