WWE has confirmed and Stephanie McMahon announced on Tuesday that she is resigning from WWE effective immediately. Vince McMahon was unanimously voted is as Executive Chairman following Stephanie’s departure. McMahon tweeted, “Then. Now. Forever. Together” as she posted an official statement on her leaving the company of which she was Co-CEO just moments earlier.
In the statement, she includes: “About 8 months ago, I took a leave of absence and within a few weeks, unexpectedly had the opportunity of a lifetime. I had the privilege to return as the Co-CEO and Chairwoman of the Board of WWE.” She adds, “I have decided to return to my leave and take it one step further with my official resignation.” She confirmed that Vince was back as Executive Chair and is leading an exciting process of strategic alternatives (most people assume the sale of the company.)
She talked about always being dedicated to the WWE and said she will be cheering on from the other side of the business. There was no mention of Triple H’s role in all of this, but Nick Khan is now solo CEO of WWE, the company confirms to Fightful. Fightful also reports, “It was reiterated to me that Triple H is still Chief Content Officer, heading up talent and live events, despite Stephanie McMahon resigning.”
This is quite the turn of events for WWE in a short amount of time. It wasn’t even two weeks ago that the WWE Board of Directors was completely against Vince’s return and wrote a letter stating as much. Just days later, he is back as Executive Chairman and Stephanie is out.
Needless to say, fans are in shock and many are concerned about what else might follow in the coming hours and days.
