The Golden State Warriors have won just two playoff series in the last four years since their 2021–22 championship, so with Steph Curry only getting older, the time to push for one last run is now.
Curry, who turned 38 in March, played in just 43 games this season after dealing with a lengthy knee injury. Because of that, moving forward, he not only knows—but expects—that the Warriors are going to add another star to help him win.
According to insider Marc Spears, Curry has his eyes on a Giannis Antetokounmpo- or LeBron James-type addition to Golden State this summer to join alongside him, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green.
“I think he knows, whether it’s a Giannis, whether it’s LeBron James, there’s going to be somebody next summer, that’s going to join him, join Jimmy, join Draymond, assuming he’s still there too,”
The 31-year-old Antetokounmpo has two years remaining on the three-year, $175,369,698 contract extension he signed with the Bucks back in 2023. On the other hand, James, 41, is a pending UFA, playing in the final year of the two-year, $101,355,998 extension he signed with the Lakers in 2024.

Curry and the Warriors have long been linked to potentially acquiring Antetokounmpo or James, though both situations finally appear to be nearing a head this offseason.
After nothing materialized at the trade deadline, it feels as if a move sending Antetokounmpo out of Milwaukee could happen sooner rather than later, and Golden State makes plenty of sense as a suitor.
As for James, the question remains whether he will continue playing altogether. Assuming he does, he could very well re-up with the Lakers to stay in Los Angeles. Should he test the open market, however, teaming up with good friends and longtime rivals Curry and Green in the Bay would surely rank near the top of his preferred destinations.
