OG Anunoby to Get Big Contract in Free Agency

New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby will be entering free agency. There will be several bidders for him and new reports suggest the bidding will start at about $35 million annually. This comes in at a higher price than originally expected and could get even higher depending on how many teams are seeking Anunoby’s services.

The Toronto Raptors traded Anunoby mid-season to the New York Knicks. The Knicks added him with the hopes of re-signing him long-term. This could get more complicated if his price continues to rise. If his salary starts to creep up toward a max contract, the Knicks could let him walk.

Anunoby brings elite defense on the wing. He can add a decent scorer as well. This past season he averaged 14.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He can play alongside elite scorers and playmakers while taking the brunt of the game plan defensively.

Who Could Sign OG Anunoby in Free Agency?

There will be a limit on the teams interested in Anunoby purely because many teams can’t afford him. Teams interested must be teams under the hard cap, and seeking a wing player. This leaves a few teams that stand out.

The Philadelphia 76ers are seeking a wing, and have lots of cap space. Anunoby is a great fit, as they seek to compete immediately. The Oklahoma City Thunder could be a team interested. They have a young core, who has ascended into contention. Adding Anunoby could be a great wing player to implement into their core. Keldon Johnson is reportedly available for trade from the San Antonio Spurs. Anunoby could be an immediate replacement and make an elite defensive due alongside Victor Wembanyama.

Of course, there’s always the possibility of returning to the New York Knicks, but other teams will try and lure him away. One thing’s certain however, OG Anunoby will get a big-time contract in free agency.
