It’s been nothing short of a disastrous start to the 2026 MLB season for the New York Mets.
A 22-33 record through their first 55 games sees them already eight games back of the final NL Wild Card spot, and barring some type of miraculous turnaround, the playoffs may not even be a thought in New York.
Plenty of things have factored into what’s gone wrong for the Mets, and one of them was the struggles and subsequent calf injury to Francisco Lindor. According to insider Jon Heyman, it’s gone so poorly that he wouldn’t be shocked to see the five-time All-Star become available on the trade market, citing his lack of relationship with Juan Soto as part of the concern.
“You know I’m not going to be shocked if Lindor is out there. There’s something wrong with the mix, I think. We’ve said this on this show many times. It’s probably been underreported in the press — not knocking our competitors, it’s underreported everywhere — but I think they’ve got to figure out how Lindor and Soto can, now, they’re not arch enemies; they’re not at each other’s throats. Soto has moved across the room, but they’re not speaking as far as I can tell. I say get them together in a room and figure it out, or investigate potentially a trade of Lindor,”
The 32-year-old Lindor has another six years remaining on the 10-year, $341 million contract extension he signed with the Mets back in 2021.

While Lindor’s play was not good to start the season, it was also a very small sample size at just 24 games, and he’s known for slow starts before heating up as the year progresses.
He had slugged 25+ home runs and driven in 85+ RBIs in each of his previous four seasons in New York, so there shouldn’t be any major concern about a sudden decline.
As a result, should Lindor actually hit the trade market, there would be no shortage of suitors despite the massive contract attached to him.
