Dylan Larkin Unwilling to Expand Trade List Despite Outside Interest

Dylan Larkin wants the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, or possibly the Dallas Stars, but that’s it.

Now more than a month removed from requesting a trade out of Detroit, the Red Wings captain has yet to be dealt, and his unwillingness to expand that list of desired landing spots continues to be an obstacle.

While Larkin has recently opened up to Dallas, according to insider David Pagnotta, other teams such as the New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks, and Seattle Kraken have been left out of the mix despite having interest in the star center.

Pagnotta wrote:

“Several other teams have expressed interest in Larkin, including the San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken and New Jersey Devils, but Larkin has not yet been willing to significantly expand his list of teams, prompting Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman to declare he has not offered any guarantees to a move,”

The 29-year-old Larkin has five years remaining on the eight-year, $69.6 million contract extension he signed with the Red Wings back in 2023. He produced 67 points (34 goals, 33 assists) in 74 games played last season.

Dylan Larkin Red Wings trade talk

Florida feels very unlikely given all of the additions they’ve made so far this summer — most notably Brady Tkachuk — though Dallas, Minnesota, and Vegas all remain in play.

In terms of a return package, however, New Jersey, San Jose, and Seattle could all probably put together stronger offers for GM Steve Yzerman, which could be why this situation is dragging out. Yzerman may want to wait and see if Larkin will budge and open up to one of those destinations.

It’s a stalemate right now, and while it’s possible that Larkin doesn’t get traded before the start of the 2026-27 season after all, everyone involved would prefer that not be the case.
