Dodgers to Keep Teoscar Hernández, Plan Big Change After Tucker Signing

Trade speculation surrounding Teoscar Hernández appears to be winding down, as the Los Angeles Dodgers are now expected to keep the veteran outfielder following their signing of Kyle Tucker.

Hernández’s name surfaced frequently in offseason trade rumors as the Dodgers explored ways to reshape their outfield. While interest from teams such as the Kansas City Royals was reported, no deal materialized. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers plan to retain Hernández for the 2026 season and move him to left field, clearing right field for Tucker.

The position change isn’t unfamiliar territory for Hernández. He played extensively in left field earlier in his Dodgers tenure before spending most of the 2025 season in right. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had publicly backed Hernández’s defense late last season, but also acknowledged that positional flexibility would be considered depending on roster construction.

A Hernández Trade Would Have Meant Selling Low

Following his 2025 campaign, which included a dip in production, moving Hernández now would have meant not getting full value in any trade. He’s still a solid power hitter, but his defensive metrics remain a concern.

Hernández, 33, is entering the second year of a contract that includes deferred money and a team option for 2028, giving the Dodgers an incentive to see if he can rebound offensively in a stronger lineup. His ability to play either corner outfield spot also provides valuable depth.

If Hernández can rediscover his form, the Dodgers would benefit immediately — and potentially regain leverage on the trade market down the line. For now, the expectation is clear: Hernández remains in Los Angeles, with a new role alongside the club’s newest star outfielder.
