The Chicago Bulls have traded Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Josh Giddey. This trade should be viewed well by each fan base and should help both sides.
Chicago Bulls Perspective
The Chicago Bulls have added Josh Giddey to their team. Giddey is a good young player who can play several positions. At only 21 years old, Giddey has an immense untapped potential, which the Bulls will seek to unlock. Giddey has been a solid player throughout his career, averaging 13.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists over his three-year career. The Bulls gave up Alex Caruso, who is a good player, but was entering a contract year. The Bulls are not contenders, and were unlikely to resign Caruso, so shifting to a young player, with All-Star potential, is a great move.
Oklahoma City Thunder Perspective
The Thunder receive Alex Caruso in this deal. Caruso is a two-time NBA All-Defensive team player. This past season he averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists. This is a great pickup for the Thunder. As true contenders, the team adds an elite perimeter defender. This will allow the team to play him alongside star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Alexander will be able to run the offense, while shifting the defensive load to Caruso.
The team had to lose Giddey, but it seemed like time. Giddey hasn’t been featured as much in the team now that other players have broken out. Giddey also ran into some off-the-court issues, which led to fans losing some support for him. While Giddey has grown with the young core, the Thunder have shifted to contenders this past season. Their focus is adding win-now talent, and filling their roster with pieces to fit with each other’s skillsets, rather than the best overall talents.
The Bulls and Thunder have made a Caruso for Giddey swap. Overall, this is a win-win trade and benefits both teams. Both fanbases will enjoy their new pieces and should be happy with a player that fits their timeline better than the previous one.
