The Toronto Blue Jays opened up their 2024 season on the road. It was a challenging ten-game road trip that raised certain issues around the team. The significant issue is that the Toronto Blue Jays sit in the bottom five for team batting average. Having a 4-6 record was not the ideal outcome the Blue Jays were looking for. Consistency seems to be an early issue with this team again. Will the Blue Jays’ early struggles continue as they return to Toronto?

Consistency Is Key

It feels like we say this every year about the Toronto Blue Jays. This team seems to struggle mightily with the idea of finding consistent success. Pitching and hitting have been a problem early this season. Hitting has been the worst hazard so far. The only acceptable hitter has been none other than the veteran Justin Turner. Having eight hits in nine games with five extra-base hits, it is safe to say that experience pays off. The veteran is showing early why he has had such a successful career. He holds a solid .286 batting average playing nine games this season. Most of the other starters are hitting below a depressing .200 average. Hopefully, their home opener can boost the hitting quantity.

Pleasant Surprises

Although the Toronto Blue Jays have had their struggles, we have seen some pleasant surprises. Fan favorite Davis Schneider has shown he can still play in the big leagues. His clutch game-winning home run against the Houston Astros gave the team a much-needed win. It gave Toronto Blue Jay fans something to cheer about. Cavan Biggio and Ernie Clement have also shown good play in the early season. They have made some great defensive plays while providing some clutch at-bats. Pitchers Jose Berrios and Yusei Kikuchi have had acceptable starts providing an ERA under 3.00. Luckily we are still very early in the season. How long will the Toronto Blue Jays early struggles last?
