Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin isn’t out of the woods yet, but his health is improving, according to reports. After collapsing on the field and being assisted by medical staff, then rushed to the nearby facility, things were critical in one of the scariest on-field incidences in recent NFL memory. But, his breathing tube has been removed and Hamlin is now breaking on his own, which is a hugely positive step.
It was four days ago Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and needed to be resuscitated on the field. It all happened as the Bills were playing the Cincinnati Bengals and fans have been watching closely on any good news that may come to light since that game.
Hamlin joined the Bills in a team meeting via videoconference and said, “love you boys.” It was a message that the Bills team absolutely cherished and was thankful for. Head coach Sean McDermott said that he probably couldn’t find the words to do it justice in terms of what it meant to the team to hear from Hamlin. He noted, “but just to see Damar, No. 1, through my own eyes, it was kind of something I needed to see… and to see the players’ reaction, they stood up right away and started clapping for him…”
The coach didn’t tell his team ahead of time that Hamlin would be joining them via FaceTime. They were thrilled to see their teammate doing better. Further details on how long his recovery might take and how much more progress he needs to make is not out there, as of yet. So far, medical reports have been good.
