The Baltimore Orioles have been a top team in the MLB this season. To boost their World Series aspirations, they’re looking to address their weaknesses. Their biggest weakness is pitching so many top starters are being considered. Now one of the top names on the market could be their target. Jon Heyman reports that the Orioles have called on a potential Garrett Crochet trade.
Crochet has been nothing short of excellent this season. He carries an ERA of 3.02 and a WHIP of 0.928. He also throws left-handed, which is always a coveted asset. Crochet also comes with two more seasons under team control, so there’s no worry of a rental. The Chicago White Sox have been brutal this season and are likely to trade any asset that carries value. This doesn’t leave Crochet with much of a spot on the White Sox, so a move seems likely.
What Would A Trade Look Like?
The Baltimore Orioles have one of the best prospect pools in the MLB. They simply don’t have enough spots on the field for all of them to play, so shipping out some who are blocked could work well in this trade.
The White Sox will likely check in on the availability of top prospect Jackson Holliday. Holliday was disappointed in the brief stint in the MLB. However, the Orioles will be keen on keeping him since it’s too early to move on.
A more likely player to move is Coby Mayo. The infielder’s path to the majors is blocked, so trading him for pitching would make sense. Mayo is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the number 15 prospect in the MLB. This is an elite prospect that the White Sox will be thrilled to get. Another name to include could be Cade Povich, the Orioles’ number 8 prospect. The left-handed pitcher could develop with the White Sox, and be the future Crochet replacement.
If Crochet moves it will be a massive haul, and this could be it. The Orioles will monitor all the top pitching options, and dangle their top prospects in deals. With the trade deadline approaching, the Baltimore Orioles could trade for Garrett Crochet.
