Per source, Adam Schefter, Aaron Rodgers has officially, and finally, been traded by the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets. The details of the trade are as follows: The Jets will get Aaron Rodgers, pick No. 15, a 2023 5th-rd pick (No. 170). In exchange, the Packers get Pick No. 13, a 2023 2nd-rd pick (No. 42), a 6th-rd pick (No. 207), a conditional 2024 2nd-rd pick that becomes a 1st if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the plays.”
It is expected that Rodgers will wear No. 8 — the number he wore in college.
Schefter tweets, “The two sides talked for weeks before talks broke down, then discussions heated up late last week. Finally, Jets GM Joe Douglas and Packers GM Brian Gutekunst were able to bridge their differences and come to an agreement.” He adds, “This marks the second time in 14 years that the Packers have traded a legendary quarterback to the Jets. In 2009, the Packers sent Brett Favre to the New York Jets in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick.”
In recent years, Rodgers has had some well-publicized contract disputes with the Packers. Over the past few weeks, there were all sorts of talk that he was looking to continue his NFL career but wasn’t prepared to do so in Green Bay. In 2018, he signed a four-year contract extension that made him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time, and by 2021, there were reports of tension between Rodgers and the team. Talk of a trade has lingered for a while now with the Jets the team he was looking to join, but a deal was taking some time to finalize.
Rodgers has won the NFL MVP award three times in his career (2011, 2014, and 2020), making him one of the most decorated quarterbacks in league history. He holds numerous Packers franchise records, including career passing yards, touchdown passes, and passer rating.
