The Chicago Bears have acquired All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans, according to sources who spoke with Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.
Chicago is receiving Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick. In return, Tennessee will get first-round picks in both 2027 and 2028, plus a 2027 fourth-round selection.
Simmons, 29, signed a three-year, $105.8 million extension, with $100 million guaranteed, with the Titans in June. He is under contract through the 2030 season. The move signals Chicago is going all-in on the present, while Tennessee is clearly looking toward the future, stockpiling premium draft capital to rebuild.
The trade also adds fuel to an increasingly aggressive NFC North. Green Bay previously sent two first-round picks to acquire Micah Parsons, and now Chicago has matched that price for Simmons. Both divisional rivals have shown they’re willing to pay a steep premium for elite defensive talent.
With Simmons anchoring the interior, the Bears’ defensive front gets a significant boost as they look to make a push in a loaded division. ESPN writes, “Simmons was a first-team All-Pro last season when he posted a career-best 11 sacks. He has four sacks in seven games this season.”

Reactions to the Simmons Trade
Early reactions seem to be that two first-round picks are a lot. Reactions like “Two firsts??? This is sauce-level trade fleece,” seemed to be typical. Others believed the risk versus reward was worth the gamble for Chicago. “This is a solid snag for Chicago. Now they should have one of the best defenses in the NFL,” wrote one fan.
Somewhere in the middle probably lies the truth: this looks like a strong haul for both sides. Chicago gets a top-three defensive tackle in his prime, while Tennessee picks up two first-rounders to jump-start its rebuild. Neither team really loses here; they’re just on different timelines. The Bears already had a solid defensive line, and Simmons makes it even more intimidating.
Still, two firsts and a fourth is a lot of future to give up for a DT who just signed a new $105.8M deal. On paper, Tennessee came out ahead, and Chicago had better be certain its window is open right now.
