One year after taking the Los Angeles Dodgers to extra innings in Game 7 of the World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays are all but certain to miss the postseason altogether in 2026, and that kind of disappointment inevitably leads to casualties.
While the front office that constructed this roster and the players who play the games themselves have and deserve to shoulder much of the blame, analyst Sid Seixeiro doesn’t believe John Schneider should be let off the hook. In fact, he went as far as to say he thinks the Blue Jays should fire their manager.
“John Schneider now has not been here for like a year. He has had a top ten slash top five payroll the entire time, he won playoff games one year he should have beat the Dodgers it was his fault they didn’t and now he’s losing Vlad. Add it up, it’s a fireable offense, You know I’m right. He’s not built for this… I think John Schneider’s had his turn. I don’t think he’s a major league manager and it’s time for the Jays to move on,”
The 46-year-old Schneider signed a two-year contract extension with the Blue Jays in March that runs through the 2028 campaign. He’s posted a 380-337 regular-season record to go with a 10-12 playoff record during his time as manager in Toronto so far.
While there’s only so much Schneider can do when his superstar and face of the franchise, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., has such a disastrous season, it’s also fair to wonder whether a new voice could be needed moving forward.
Managers only last so long nowadays, and the 2026 season marks the fourth full year of Schneider leading the charge. So, while it may not be the likeliest of moves, the Blue Jays at least considering a managerial change this winter shouldn’t be ruled out.
