Jack Roslovic has spent time on four different teams over the last three seasons, and in 2026-27 he’ll be joining his fifth different team in four years, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
For the first time in a while, however, Roslovic has the security of a multi-year contract with his new squad, and on Thursday, the versatile forward spoke about what made him decide to sign that deal with Toronto during an appearance on TSN’s OverDrive.
Among the factors he mentioned was his belief that, despite a down 2025-26 season, the Maple Leafs are ready to win.
“Mixture of everything. You know, they’ve been a team that you could say didn’t have their best year last year, but it’s a team that is new, it’s young, it’s vibrant, it’s ready to win, and, you know, a couple of familiar faces around, you know, a really cool, really good style of hockey that’s exciting. So I just wanted to be a part of it,”
The 29-year-old Roslovic signed a two-year, $8 million contract to join Toronto this summer in free agency. He produced 36 points (21 goals, 15 assists) across 69 games played for the Edmonton Oilers last season.
While Gavin McKenna, Darren Raddysh, and Sergei Bobrovsky have understandably taken up most of the headlines when it comes to the Maple Leafs’ offseason additions, Roslovic could prove to be a very valuable acquisition himself.
He’s coming off consecutive 20+ goal seasons despite his role constantly fluctuating and seeing minimal power-play time. More opportunity could be in store for him in Toronto, and perhaps the opportunity to spend some time on a line with good friend Auston Matthews, one of the familiar faces he referenced.
If Roslovic and the other new Maple Leafs can help the likes of Matthews, William Nylander, John Tavares, and Matthew Knies, then it’s quite reasonable to think that playoff hockey could return to Toronto after a brief year off.
