One superstar running back holdout/hold-in is already over. After watching the return to team practice at training camp, it didn’t take long for Bijan Robinson and the Atlanta Falcons to hash out a contract extension, ensuring he’d be back participating with them moving forward.
It was announced on Tuesday morning that the Falcons and Robinson reached an agreement on a three-year, $75 million contract extension that will make him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, for now at least.

“ESPN sources: Two-time Pro-Bowl selection Bijan Robinson and the Falcons reached agreement on a three-year extension worth up to $75 million that now will make him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. Robinson will receive a record $51 million guaranteed, including $37 million at signing, in a deal that agent Nicole Lynn and the Falcons have been working hard on to finish up in recent days,”
The 24-year-old Robinson is coming off a massive 2025-26 season in which he ran for 1,478 yards and seven touchdowns on 287 carries, while adding 820 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns on 79 receptions across 17 games.
Robinson’s new deal now shifts all of the focus onto Jahmyr Gibbs, who has missed five straight Detroit Lions practices to start training camp. Head coach Dan Campbell is certainly hoping it might help.
“[Robinson’s deal is] not gonna hurt, but we’ll see. Look, I’m anxious to get Gibbs back out there. Every day that goes by, that’s another day that you feel like you miss with him and getting him out there with the guys and him doing his part. But there again, it’ll get done when it gets done,”
While there’s no reason to panic just yet, Gibbs’ situation has felt a little more tense than Robinson’s. Seeing what Atlanta paid its similarly talented superstar running back, however, should benefit both parties in these contract negotiations and potentially inch them closer to a resolution well before the regular season.
