Bills Urged to Go All In and Trade for Justin Jefferson

The Buffalo Bills’ window to win a Super Bowl is right now with Josh Allen at the peak of his powers and arguably the best player in all of football.

As amazing as Allen is, he’s now 30 years old and heading into Year 9 of his NFL career, but has yet to even make an appearance in the big game.

Last season, a lack of weapons, particularly at the wide receiver position, came back to bite the Bills, so this offseason GM Brandon Beane went out and acquired DJ Moore. While Moore is an upgrade and could become Allen’s top target, Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report believes Buffalo should still be willing to add on the outside, and possibly via a move as bold as trading for Justin Jefferson.

Davenport wrote:

“To be clear, it is exceedingly unlikely the Vikings would trade arguably the best wide receiver in the game. However, it’s also worth mentioning Jefferson had nothing but good things to say about new Bills head coach Joe Brady, per Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports:

‘He’s already been doing a phenomenal job behind the scenes. He’s a great guy, he’s a great coach. Having him as my offensive coordinator my 2019 year, we had so much fun together just building and working on our craft. I feel like he was mostly the reason why I got picked first round. He’s the reason why my hands got better, why a lot of things occurred during that season, so I’m just proud of him to go from the Saints to LSU and now he’s back in the league and now he’s about to be a head coach.’

Jefferson would command a king’s ransom—multiple first-round picks plus. It would be the ultimate “win now” move by the Bills. But it is Super Bowl or bust in Buffalo after the offseason firing of Sean McDermott, and the idea of Josh Allen throwing passes to Jefferson and D.J. Moore should terrify the rest of the AFC,”

Jefferson, 27, has three years remaining on the four-year, $140 million contract extension he signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024. He posted a career-low 1,048 receiving yards and just two touchdowns on 84 receptions in 17 games during the 2025 season.

As Davenport notes, Jefferson would cost a fortune if he were even made available by the Vikings. That said, we just saw Myles Garrett dealt to the Los Angeles Rams in a shocking blockbuster, so the feeling around the NFL right now is that anything can happen.
