The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is quickly approaching as we near the end of January and head into the All-Star break. Teams have been slowly deciding whether they want to go all-in and try to make a run at a Stanley Cup or if they’re going to sell assets and continue a rebuild/retool. For the Minnesota Wild, the choice seems clear for them as they sit second last in the Central Division ahead of only the Chicago Blackhawks, so they should be looking to sell. That makes Pat Maroon an interesting name to watch.

According to The Fourth Period, two teams have shown interest in Maroon. Those teams are the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning, both teams whom Maroon played for previously.

Maroon is a 35-year-old, left-shot forward from St. Louis, Missouri currently playing for the Wild and stands 6-foot-3, 234 pounds. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers at 161st overall. Throughout his career, Maroon has scored 121 goals adding 183 assists for 304 points through 778 games having spent time with the Oilers, Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, St. Louis Blues, and now the Wild. Maroon is also a three-time Stanley Cup champion.

What Is Maroon Bringing This Season?

This season with the Wild, Maroon has scored four goals adding 12 assists for 16 points through 49 games and sits at minus-11. The Wild likely won’t be asking for a lot in return for Maroon who has remained in their bottom six all season. However, with his veteran leadership and playoff experience it would be understandable if the Wild ask for a B-level prospect and a third-round pick. He would be a solid addition to any contending team and could gain interest closer to the trade deadline when teams have accrued cap space.
